Improving access to income generation opportunities and reduce reliance on mines by strengthening local SMMEs.
Thuthukani, meaning “uplift” in isiZulu, is our enterprise development programme. The programme, implemented in partnership with Raizcorp, our Business Development Support Partner (BDSP), aims to grow participation businesses through tailored business skills, personalised business guidance and technical enablement.
Qualifying businesses engaged with Thungela may access loan funding, facilitated by our fund administrator Absa, at preferential interest rates.
Our strategic focus on economic sustainability drives our effort to empower community SMMEs, enabling them to generate sustainable income and employment opportunities.
In 2023, our loan financing increased from R1.8 million to R21.6 million, helping to create 114 new direct jobs.
