Responsible sourcing is important to us

Aligned with our vision to create shared value for all our stakeholders, our responsible sourcing standard for suppliers defines the minimum sustainability requirements and decent work principles required by those who work with us. Our commitment to responsible sourcing prioritises ethical decision-making when purchasing goods and services. We expect suppliers to meet all applicable laws – and share our commitment to improve people’s lives, society and the environment. Suppliers are a critical part of our business and incorporate providers of goods and services both to our business and its subsidiaries, agents, contractors and customers. We have defined five responsible sourcing pillars that contain important conditions for doing business with us:

Business partners are expected to provide a safe and healthy work environment to prevent disease, accident and/or injury in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations in the countries where we operate and where they are registered or conduct their business.

Protect the environment
Protect the environment

Business partners are expected to comply with all applicable environmental laws and regulations, including our site requirements. They must embrace sustainability, minimising their environmental impact through the efficient use of resources, waste management and pollution prevention.

Respect labour and human rights
Respect labour and human rights

Business partners are expected to treat people with dignity and respect all labour and human rights throughout their supply and value chains. They are expected to combat all forms of modern slavery, eliminating forced, child, trafficked, bonded and involuntary prison labour.

Contribute to thriving communities
Contribute to thriving communities

Business partners are expected to comply with all Thungela Social Policy and toolkit requirements, including, community engagement activities, local employment, local procurement, community training opportunities and socio-economic development initiatives.

Conduct business fairly and with integrity
Conduct business fairly and with integrity

Business partners are expected to comply with all applicable local, national and international laws. They are prohibited from all forms of bribery, corruption, extortion or embezzlement or allowing anyone else to act in this manner on their behalf.
